Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw

The Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw is one of the leading centers of natural sciences in Poland. It comprises nine institutes, the Botanical Garden, and three field stations located in Białowieża, Urwitałt, and Pilchy. More than 550 students and 110 doctoral candidates explore the intricacies of biology, biotechnology, and environmental protection under the guidance of over 200 academic staff members. Teaching and research activities are supported by state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with specialized scientific instruments.

Researchers at the Faculty of Biology conduct studies that align with the most significant global trends in the natural and life sciences. Their scientific projects are funded by both national and international grant agencies, and the results are published in renowned scientific journals. Biological sciences, ecology, and biotechnology at our University consistently rank well in international rankings.

While the Faculty primarily focuses on basic research, the knowledge generated contributes to addressing the most pressing issues of our time, such as civilization diseases, threats to the natural environment, and biodiversity loss.
