Patent for Faculty of Biology researchers for a microbiological preparation supporting the consolidation of sand and sandy soils

The Patent Office of the Republic of Poland has issued a decision to grant a patent for the invention entitled “Microbiological preparation for supporting the process of consolidation of sand and/or sandy soils, method of its production and method of supporting the process of consolidation of sand and/or sandy soils”, which was developed as part of the research conducted by Prof. Łukasz Dziewit’s team form Institute of Bioengineering.

Although sand may seem simple and commonplace, its stabilization can pose a significant environmental and technological challenge. The microbiological preparation developed by the researchers is designed to support the process of consolidation, that is, the strengthening and binding of loose sandy substrates. In practice, this means using the potential of microorganisms to support processes that may improve the properties of sand and sandy soils.

The invention fits into the growing area of applied research at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, in which microorganisms serve as tools for solving specific environmental and technological problems. This direction is particularly important in the search for biological, safe and more sustainable methods of working with soil and other natural materials.
