Polish-Czech OPUS 30+LAP/Weave Grants for Researchers from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw

Two researchers from the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, have received funding under Polish-Czech OPUS 30+LAP/Weave projects of the National Science Centre. The grants were awarded to projects led by Dr habil. Anna Karnkowska, university professor, and Dr Dorota Dwużnik-Szarek. The research will be carried out in cooperation with partners from Poland and the Czech Republic.

Prof. Anna Karnkowska, from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, received funding for the project “Diversity, ecology and interactions of parasitic protists from the Perkinsea group in freshwater ecosystems”.

The Polish part of the project received funding of PLN 1,690,660. The Czech partner is the Biology Centre, Czech Academy of Sciences, and the project leader on the Czech side is Dr Elisabeth Hehenberger.

Dr Dorota Dwużnik-Szarek from the Institute of Developmental Biology and Biomedical Sciences, received funding for the project “Deciphering the diversity of Apicomplexa parasites and transmission routes between wild and domestic mammals in Central Europe”.

Funding awarded to the Polish part amounts to PLN 1,772,142. The project partner is the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, while the Czech partners are Mendel University in Brno and the Czech University of Life Sciences. The project leader on the Czech side is Dr Kristýna Hrazdilová.
