International Conference of the Polish Phycological Society at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw

On 25-28 May 2026, the 43rd International Conference of the Polish Phycological Society “Global Environmental Changes: Algal Response and Ecosystem Perspectives” will take place. The Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, is a co-organiser of the event. The conference will begin in the Faculty building and will then continue at a hotel and conference venue in Falenty.

The event continues the long-standing tradition of annual meetings of the Polish Phycological Society and serves as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers working on algae and cyanobacteria. The conference brings together specialists from Poland and across Europe, creating a space for discussion on the role of algae in global ecosystems, their responses to environmental changes, and the potential applications of phycological research findings.

The conference programme will include lectures by invited guests, among them outstanding scientists representing research institutions from Poland and Europe, including Prof. Hanna Mazur-Marzec from the University of Gdańsk, Prof. Judit Padisák from the University of Pannonia, Hungary, Frederik Leliaert from Meise Botanic Garden and Ghent University, Belgium, and Prof. Peter Kroth from the University of Konstanz, Germany.

The conference will also feature microscopy workshops led by Dr Małgorzata Poniewozik, who specialises in freshwater phytoplankton research, with particular emphasis on its distribution, ecology, and role in the functioning of lakes and ponds, as well as the taxonomy and biology of euglenoids.
