FENG grant for a project carried out in a consortium with the participation of our researchers
12 05 2026
We are pleased to announce that Dr hab. Anna Zawistowska-Deniziak, University Professor, and Dr Eng. Mateusz Pękacz from the Pathogen Immunobiology Research Team are the coauthors of a project carried out in consortium with Vet Planet sp. z o.o., which has received funding from the European Funds for a Modern Economy programme (FENG) of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).
The project entitled “Development and implementation of an innovative multiplex platform for the simultaneous diagnosis of canine dirofilariasis (D. immitis, D. repens) and leishmaniasis” aims to develop and implement a new multiplex diagnostic platform enabling the simultaneous detection of pathogens responsible for two important parasitic diseases in dogs: dirofilariasis and leishmaniasis.
Multiplex diagnostics enables the analysis of several pathogens in a single test, which may accelerate diagnosis, reduce the number of separate tests and increase the usefulness of diagnostics in veterinary practice. The project will place particular emphasis on the simultaneous detection of Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens and agents associated with canine leishmaniasis.
The solution being developed responds to the growing importance of vector-borne diseases in companion animals. Dirofilariasis and leishmaniasis are transmitted by vectors, and their diagnosis may be challenging due to varied clinical symptoms and the possibility of co-infections. The new platform is intended to support faster, more comprehensive and practical diagnostics, thereby helping veterinarians make therapeutic decisions.
The project received funding after the second stage of evaluation in the call FENG.01.01-IP.01-002/25 – SMART Path: Projects Implemented in Consortia. As part of the call, NCBR selected 64 projects for funding, with a total recommended funding amount of over PLN 652.9 million. The project leader is Vet Planet sp. z o.o., while the University of Warsaw acts as a consortium partner.
