The final of the Biology Olympiad at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw

From 17 to 19 April, the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw hosted the national final of the 55th Biology Olympiad. The event brought together the best secondary school students from all over Poland, who took part in the central stage of the competition, that is, the third stage of the Olympiad. The award ceremony was attended by Katarzyna Lubnauer, Deputy Minister of Education.

The final included a theoretical test, practical tasks, and the defence of a previously prepared research project. The practical part was divided into four sections: botany, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and zoology.

The results of the 55th Biology Olympiad were announced on 20 April. The laureates and finalists of this year’s edition demonstrated a very high level of biological knowledge, practical skills, and research competences.

Finalists and laureates received certificates guaranteeing a 100% result in the biology Matura exam. The four laureates who achieved the best results in the central competition will also represent Poland at the International Biology Olympiad, which will take place from 12 to 19 July at Vilnius University in Vilnius, Lithuania.

It is also worth noting that, in this year’s edition, one eighth-grade primary school student took part and became one of the finalists.

The award ceremony was attended by the Presidium of the Main Committee of the Biology Olympiad, chaired by Dr habil. Piotr Bębas from the Institute of Experimental Zoology, as well as by Deputy Minister of Education Katarzyna Lubnauer.
