New educational and artistic initiative: “The Tasty Nature Journal”!

The “Tasty Nature Journal” project is an educational and artistic initiative created by nature journaling enthusiasts. It will be carried out in the University of Warsaw Botanical Garden under the supervision of the Biology Education Unit of the Faculty of Biology.

The main goal of the project is for each participant to create an individual notebook documenting observations of edible plants in the Botanical Garden, referring to this year’s educational series “TASTY BOTANICAL” (https://www.ogrod.uw.edu.pl/kategorie/apetyczny-botaniczny/).

The project will run from April to September 2026 and will end with a presentation of the completed notebooks in September, on the closing day of the Botanical Garden’s season.

The project aims to develop mindfulness and nature observation skills, encourage regular observation, foster creativity, provide knowledge about edible plants, and build a community of people creating nature notes in the style of nature journaling.

The participants include attendees of the “Mindfulness in Nature – Nature Journaling” course at the University of Warsaw Open University, UW students attending the course “Nature Journaling – Fall in Love with Nature by Making Nature Notes,” employees of the University of Warsaw Botanical Garden and the School of Education, as well as teachers and educators who, apart from working on their own notebooks, plan to involve their students in the project as well.

The initiator and coordinator of the “Tasty Nature Journal” project is Dr Monika Klejman from the Biology Education Unit, Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw.
