Hydrobiology workshops for the Partner School at the Faculty of Biology
20 02 2026
On 18 February, the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw hosted hydrobiology workshops led by Mr Marcin Żebrowski, MSc, for students from the Public Catholic Primary School named after Rev. Jan Twardowski in Ząbki, initiated by Dr Katarzyna Czyż.
During the workshops, students learned how the presence of a visual predator, a planktivorous fish, affects the behaviour and physiological responses of its prey, using the model water flea Daphnia magna as an example. They also discovered how fish shape the taxonomic structure of zooplankton communities in lakes by analysing field samples collected from fishless and fish-inhabited freshwater lakes.
After the workshop session, the students visited the laboratories of the Department of Hydrobiology (Institute of Ecology) and saw what laboratory work looks like in practice.
Thank you for your visit, we hope it will inspire you to study biology at our Faculty.
