World Wetlands Day at the Faculty of Biology!
27 01 2026
Already this coming weekend (31 January – 1 February), we will once again celebrate World Wetlands Day at the Faculty of Biology. This year’s edition is held under the theme:
“Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.”
The event will offer a broad perspective on wetlands, not only from a biological point of view, but also from historical and anthropological perspectives.
The Faculty of Biology will be represented by Dr hab. Wiktor Kotowski from the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, who will moderate the discussion panel. Among the stands presenting activities related to wetland research and conservation, there will be student scientific societies connected with the Faculty of Biology: the Botany Students’ Scientific Circle and SKN UW for Climate. Students of the Faculty are also involved in the organisation of the event as volunteers.
Programme of this year’s celebrations:
31 January (Saturday), 10:00 – a field trip led by Dr hab. Wiktor Kotowski to the area of the planned wetland park at Łąki Oborskie and the Łęgi Oborskie Nature Reserve in the municipality of Konstancin-Jeziorna.

The history of this event, organised by the Wetlands Conservation Centre in our building, is almost as long as the history of the building itself – the first celebrations took place in 2009.
We warmly invite you to join us and help write the next chapter of this event’s history in 2026!
