Researchers from the Faculty of Biology UW among the World’s Top 2% most influential scientists

Five researchers from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw have been included in this year’s list of the 2% most influential scientists in the world. Congratulations!

As every year, Elsevier has published a list of the most highly cited scientists representing all fields of research. The ranking was prepared in collaboration with Stanford University, based on data from the Scopus database, using indicators derived from citation counts and publication records. The list is presented in two categories:

  • career-long impact,
  • single year impact (2024).

In the category covering career-long impact, the following researchers were included:

  • late Prof. Zbigniew Maciej Gliwicz – hydrobiologist and evolutionary biologist, long-term head of the Department of Hydrobiology at the Institute of Zoology (now the Institute of Ecology),
  • Prof. Danuta Maria Antosiewicz – head of the Department of Molecular Basis of Metal Homeostasis in Plants at the Institute of Experimental Plant Biology and Biotechnology,
  • Prof. Małgorzata Wierzbicka – head of the Department of Ecotoxicology at the Institute of Environmental Biology,
  • Prof. Małgorzata Stpiczyńska – botanist at the University of Warsaw Botanic Garden,
  • Prof. Anna Bajer – head of the Department of Eco-Epidemiology of Parasitic Diseases at the Institute of Developmental Biology and Biomedical Sciences.

In the category of single year impact (2024), Prof. Anna Bajer was once again recognized among the most influential scientists.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists 2024 ranking includes researchers from across the globe and is considered one of the most prestigious listings evaluating scientists’ impact on the advancement of their fields.
