Dr. Anna Zawistowska-Deniziak from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw has received a grant from the National Science Centre (NCN) in the SONATA 20 competition for the project “Multi-antigen vaccine against Trichinella spiralis and Trichinella britovi – a novel approach to trichinellosis prevention.” The project is led by Dr. Anna Stachyra from the Medical University of Warsaw.
Trichinella are dangerous parasites transmitted through raw or undercooked meat, primarily from wild boars and pigs. Although trichinellosis is strictly monitored, it remains a threat to both human and animal health. The research team is developing an innovative multi-antigen vaccine based on selected parasite proteins. The project aims not only to protect health but also to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms by which these harmful nematodes operate. The vaccine may be applied in pigs, hunting dogs, and wild boars, and potentially in humans in the future.
