Dr Holly Anderson received a Palaeontological Association grant

Dr Holly Anderson from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw, has received a microgrant from the Palaeontological Association for her project entitled “A novel experiment using simulated scavenging to investigate patterns of skeletal disarticulation in the fossil record.”

Her project aims to explore how scavenging processes influence the disarticulation and distribution of dead animal bones, helping to better interpret the fossil record. By simulating scavenger activity under controlled conditions, the study seeks to identify consistent patterns in how skeletons come apart over time. These findings could improve our understanding of taphonomic processes and enhance reconstructions of ancient ecosystems.

The Palaeontological Association prioritizes projects that describe a single, well-defined study with clear potential for future applications. Applicants must hold a PhD and be members of the Association.
