04 06 2025
This Saturday, June 7, you will have an opportunity to meet scientists from the Faculty of Biology during the Family Picnic “POla RADości”. The event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of the Radium Institute, now known as the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw. You’re invited!
At Maria Skłodowska-Curie Park, near the historic seat of the Radium Institute in the Ochota district of Warsaw, starting at 11:00 a.m., picnic participants will enjoy science shows, experiments, and meetings with fascinating guests.
The Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw will host its own booth, offering demonstrations and an ecological game:
- Amazing Microorganisms Around Us
- How Plants Transport Water Over Long Distances
- Extraordinary Animals from Another World – an Ecological Game
This will also be a chance to meet experts from the Faculty and discuss a wide range of biological topics. The picnic will also include health screenings, educational activities focused on prevention, and first aid training. As part of the Warsaw Protects program and the Hour for Life initiative, there will be an attempt to break the record for the number of people simultaneously performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
An open-air lecture stage will also be set up in the park, featuring experts from the National Institute of Oncology and partnering scientific institutions.
Alongside the researchers from the Faculty of Biology, you’ll also be able to meet scientists from the Faculty of Physics and the Faculty of Chemistry UW, the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS, the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS, the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum in Warsaw, and the Museum of the History of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw.
The event is organized by the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology and the Ochota District Office of the City of Warsaw.
