16 10 2025
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Marta Szulkin, from the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, has been awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize for 2024 in the category of scientific achievements.
The award recognizes her research that advances our understanding of evolutionary processes in complex urban environments, as well as the mechanisms of animal adaptation to city life – environments dynamically shaped by natural, social, and cultural factors. Research conducted at the Laboratory of the Biology of the Anthropocene led by Prof. Szulkin focuses on the study of the evolution and ecology of organisms in the anthropocene – an era dominated by human activity, exerting a significant global impact on Earth’s ecosystems.
Prof. Szulkin’s most recent studies have also been featured in media:
- in „Polityce”: W Ukrainie giną wróble. Na wojnie fauna zanika, brakuje flory. Polska musi o tym pomyśleć
- in „Rzeczpospolitej”: Pionierskie badania. Jak religia, polityka i wojna zmieniają ewolucję przyrody w mieście
Congratulations!
