Open lecture session entitled “Regenerative Practices in Dryland Environments”

10 09 2025
We warmly invite you to an open lecture session entitled “Regenerative Practices in Dryland Environments”, featuring presentations by:
- Dr Eli Zaady (Katif Research & Development Center, The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology) on “The Role of Biocrusts as Ecosystem Engineers in Dry Environments”
- Dr Ilan Stavi (Dead Sea–Arava Center) on “Soil Carbon Dynamics and Management in the Israeli Drylands”
The session will conclude with a lecture by dr hab. Monika Mętrak (Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw) entitled “Permaculture as a Systemic Agro-Ecological Approach”.
Over half of agricultural land worldwide suffers from soil degradation – a process currently accelerated by climate change and the intensification of land use. These changes pose particular risks to soils in dryland regions. During the open lecture session, experts invited within the framework of the IDUB MENTOR program will present solutions based on natural ecological processes and contributing soil quality improvement in dryland environments.
The lecture session will take place on September 22, from 10:00 to 13:00, in Room 0.36 (Miejsce Dobrych Spotkań) at the Biological and Chemical Research Centre, University of Warsaw.
