Interview with Prof. Łucja Kowalewska in the latest issue of the University of Warsaw magazine “UW”

In the latest issue of the University of Warsaw magazine “UW”, the article “Time and Biology” has been published. In it, Dr hab. Łucja Kowalewska, university professor, talks about her inspirations in science, including the influence of the Star Trek series, the dilemma she faced after high school of choosing between medicine and biotechnology, and the successive stages of her scientific career.

The winner of this year’s NCN Award also presents the background of research on things that are not visible in everyday life: plant plastids, the nanomorphology of membranes, and structures on the scale of billionths of a meter. The interview includes a theme of teamwork carried out under conditions of limited light, often at night, when it is possible to observe processes taking place in plants “when no one is watching” and to capture details that are inaccessible from a daily perspective.

On a daily basis, Prof. Łucja Kowalewska heads the Department of Plant Anatomy and Cytology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw, as well as the Plastid Nanomorphology Group at the Biological and Chemical Research Centre of the University of Warsaw.

The article “Time and Biology” can be found on page 24.
