Grants for researchers from the Faculty of Biology UW in OPUS 29 and PRELUDIUM 24

The Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw has won seven OPUS 28 and one PRELUDIUM 24 grants from programmes of the National Science Centre. We are proud to present below the full list of laureates of the latest NCN grant call:

OPUS 29:

Dr Piotr Golec (principal investigator) – Interactions between lytic phages and Pseudomonas aeruginosa: impact on pigment metabolism, virulence regulation and the emergence of phage-resistant mutants. Awarded amount: PLN 1,881,850.

Dr Karolina Jaworska (principal investigator) – Small regulatory RNAs as key elements in Yersinia adaptation: a comparative study of Y. enterocolitica and Y. ruckeri in the context of pathogenesis and ecology. Awarded amount: PLN 1,740,940.

Dr hab. Rafał Archacki (principal investigator) – The role of the SWI/SNF chromatin-remodelling complex in regulating shoot architecture in Arabidopsis and barley. Awarded amount: PLN 3,473,600.

Dr Piotr Maszczyk (principal investigator) – Temperature-dependent predation as an ultimate factor shaping the relationship between temperature and body size in ectothermic organisms. Awarded amount: PLN 1,909,562 (consortium with SGGW; University of Warsaw is the leader).

Dr hab. inż. Paweł Sikorski (principal investigator) – Are RIG-I-Like Receptors the key to understanding Galliformes’ susceptibility to pathogens? Investigating the role of MDA5 in shaping the interferon response in birds and mammals. Awarded amount: PLN 3,999,160 (consortium with the Medical University of Białystok; University of Warsaw is the leader).

Prof. Iwona Jasser (consortium partner) – An interdisciplinary approach to understanding the diversity, physiology and toxicity of Prymnesium parvum. Awarded amount: PLN 5,418,751 (consortium with Jagiellonian University – leader, University of Gdańsk, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology PAS, University of Silesia; project leader: Dr hab. Dariusz Dziga).

Dr hab. Rafał Archacki (consortium partner) – Development of a reference platform for AI/ML-based predictive models in agrochemical applications related to bioactivity and toxicity. Awarded amount: PLN 2,130,120 (consortium with IBB PAS – leader, and AGH; project leader: Dr hab. Paweł Siedlecki).

PRELUDIUM 24:

MSc Anita Murawska (principal investigator) – Multi-proxy palaeoenvironmental studies of the archaeological site in Lipsk (NE Poland). Awarded amount: PLN 140,000.
