30 04 2025
On behalf of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, and the Director of the University of Warsaw Botanic Garden, we invite you to a ceremony at the cornerstone of the Temple of Divine Providence in the Botanic Garden of the University of Warsaw on May 3rd at 12:00.
A commemorative lecture titled “The Constitution of 3 May – A Shared Heritage of the Nations of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth” will be delivered by Professor Hieronim Grala from the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” at the University of Warsaw.
On May 3rd, 1792—twelve months after the adoption of the Constitution od 3 May – senators and dignitaries of the Kingdom of Poland gathered here en masse to ceremoniously lay the cornerstone for the Temple of Divine Providence under the leadership of King Stanisław August.
According to the resolution of the Four-Year Sejm, this church was intended as a votive offering of thanks for the adoption of the Constitution. During the ceremony, a brick section of one of the planned temple’s pillars was laid by the king and high-ranking officials. However, the construction was never completed. It is at this very site that we continue to honor the memory of the authors of our first fundamental law.
