Graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Biology UW graduates in the 2025/2026 academic year

On 24 June 2026, a graduation ceremony for graduates of the second-cycle degree programmes in Biology and Biotechnology was held at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw. The event marked the symbolic conclusion of an important stage in their education and provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements they had made during their studies.

The ceremony was attended by the entire Dean’s team of the Faculty of Biology UW: Dean Prof. Krzysztof Spalik, Vice-Dean for Research Organisation Prof. Anna Ajduk, Vice-Dean for Finance Prof. Łukasz Drewniak, and Vice-Dean for Student Affairs Dr Takao Ishikawa.

Representatives of the Faculty authorities congratulated the graduates on completing their studies and emphasised the importance of the knowledge, skills and experience they had gained during their education at the Faculty of Biology UW. Their Master’s studies provided an opportunity to deepen their scientific interests, develop independence in conducting research, and gain experience in laboratory, field and analytical work.

An important part of the ceremony was a lecture delivered by alumna Aleksandra Głowacka, MSc, on the topic of her Master’s thesis: “Tailor-made phages: engineering T7 bacteriophages that bind to titanium”.

The first IGLO Award was also presented during the graduation ceremony. Its Polish name, „Inspirujący Głos Ludzi Oddziałujących”, can be translated as “Inspiring Voice of People Making an Impact”. The idea behind the award was inspired by an igloo built by Stanisław Świeżewski, which attracted nationwide media attention. The award will be presented annually to a student who has contributed to increasing the Faculty’s presence in the media or has supported its promotion and visibility in another way. The first recipient of the IGLO Award was Stanisław Świeżewski.

The graduation ceremony was also an opportunity to thank everyone involved in the educational process, including academic teachers, research supervisors and staff members supporting the organisation of studies. Thanks to their work, the graduates were able to develop their interests, carry out research projects and prepare their Master’s theses in various fields of modern biology and biotechnology.

Completing a second-cycle degree programme opens up many opportunities for further development. The education acquired by the graduates may provide a foundation for an academic career, including further education at a doctoral school, as well as employment in laboratories, research institutions, public administration, education, nature conservation and the biotechnology sector.
