Research areas:

  • The role of biogenic amines in insect behaviour, analysis of rhythmic phenomena. Analysis of genes activated during cold stress in insects. Molecular analysis of physiological phenomena connected with insect diapause. Programmed somatic and reproductive cell death in insects. Analysis of the expression of biological clock-controlled genes in the reproductive tract of insects. Hormonal regulation of insect reproductive processes.
  • The role of the pineal gland and melatonin in the regulation of rhythms and physiological cycles in vertebrates; melatonin signal transduction in immune cells; neurohormonal regulation of hibernation and reproduction of amphibians; involvement of the immune system in the homeostatic network, including the effects of feeding, air pollution, melatonin treatment and photoperiodic changes on different aspects of the immune system function.
